Founded in 1999, Urban Word champion the voices of youth by providing platforms for critical literacy, youth development and leadership through free and uncensored writing, college prep and performance opportunities.
AECI National Honor Society and Black Student Union members teamed together to attend Urban Word’s Slam Workshop yesterday.
Our students will be entered in a city-wide competition with a chance to perform their spoken-word on stage at the Apollo theater should they move on to the final round.

Finalists are in the running to (1) join the NYC Poetry Slam team to represent NYC at the Brave New Voices National Poetry Festival, (2) win an all-expenses-paid trip to San Francisco to compete against teens from all over the country and (3) for full, 4-year scholarships to a number of schools, namely: The University of Pennsylvania, Manhattanville, and many others.
